Where were we? Ah yes...

Knitting.

My Sartorial Statement for Late Winter, started 26 Feb finished 28 Feb
Pattern: Kate Gilbert's Nancy Drew beret from IK Winter 2005
Yarn: Jaeger Matchmaker merino DK and Lana Grossa merino DK (black)

beret

I only had black DK yarn to hand, and in two different brands no less, so this is somewhat larger and more poufy than the 'dorable little topper the designer envisioned. More like the 80s versions wisely eschewed by more diligent fashionistas. Those flecks, scratches and dirts are not actually on my face, nor on my camera lens - it's a very old mirror.

A Summer Cardi for Sue.

Tread Softly Socks

softly sock

A new pair of Badcaul socks, with two leftovers balls of Karabella Margrite from that Bridie cardigan. My foot has a moment of disbelief when I try it on, that it should be seen fit for such softness.

you look absolutely divine in that beret... I live here and there is no way in hell I could pull one off :)

You look great in that beret! I didn't really like it in the magazine, but now that I see it on you, I'm tempted to make one for myself.

I think you look fab, and not a bit too 80s. The summer cardi is pretty -- what yarn is that?

Posted by: Gina at March 13, 2006 04:22 PM

You do look smashing in that beret! How did I miss that pattern?

Posted by: Carrie at March 13, 2006 04:22 PM

You look very smart in your beret looks - perfect for breezy spring days (preferably by the ocean)!

Still adorable, believe me!

Now I am going to go check out those sock patterns!

Elegant and chic - what more can you ask for in a hand knit! Love the idea of socks in the karabella - cashmere Mmmmmm...

There was a beret pattern in IK? I must go home this very evening and search for it!

Are those tulips on the summer cardi? That's what I see, anyway. It's a splendid shade of red.

It is an adorable beret. Not 80's, but tres chic and tres Parisian!...

after trying on pair after pair of sandals and deciding my poor twisted toes are too homely for public viewing, I left the shoe store and came home to cheer up by looking at beautiful knitting on various blogs. Who knew that the answer was in your sock patterns (which I just purchased)! Now my feet will know the glory of something cozy and beautiful...perhaps in Karabella as well. Thanks!
p.s. The beret is lovely, but I'm more intrigued by the summer cardi. Keep us posted.

will we be seeing the tread lightly pattern shortly? It is lovely.

Lovely beret - and created sooo quickly!!!! Not sure how I missed this one ;)

Love the colour of the cardi - what is it?

Posted by: Lesley at March 14, 2006 07:11 AM

So nice to see you smiling.

Love the beret! It looks great on you. And those socks look so scrumptious and soft -- enjoy!

Smashing beret, perfect for the spring I guess! Wow, the other projects also seem to come out really well, the surfaces look so perfectly smooth !! What's the secret?

Posted by: mama therapy at March 14, 2006 03:18 PM

Wow- I think I said "Ew" when I saw the beret in the mag, now I want to make one! Funny how photostyling can make or break a handknit.

And the socks look so different in a solid color! I started your Nautiul pattern last night and went with the Turkish cast-on. I've never done that before and I really, really like it! Seamless!

The beret makes you look rather dashing!

Posted by: Leisl at March 14, 2006 09:05 PM

I added you to my blogroll after finding out about those Badcaul socks (thanks yahaira!)which I can't wait to try, and now I am going to make your Elfine socks as my first socks!!!

I know they are probably too difficult for first socks but I am too excited about them to care. I have lots of ppl who knit socks to ask advice of anyhow.

I love your blog, its too cute! Oh and so is the beret!

Au Revoir!!

I've been wanting to knit a beret lately. Hopefully you had it in the snow.

Posted by: Pip at March 16, 2006 06:47 PM

Very glam in the beret! They are so much more face-flattering than lots of the other hat patterns floating around.

Posted by: Birdsong at March 19, 2006 07:26 PM

The color of the cardi is lovely. What yarn/color is it? I see you knit on wooden straights at times. I do too! Which needle length do you knit the most with and which brand of needles do you care for. Thanks.
